Dear Chris Emery,

I am much saddened to read your poems online, and reminded of Wilde's comment
that men kill the thing they love. Do you really think that any idea that comes into your
mind is a fitting one for a poem? Can you imagine how passe and wearying are the
"shock-the-bougeois" tactics of the 1960's which you are still employing? Is there any
place in your world-view for discipline and careful thought? For goodness sakes, my
son, try some.

Dear Chris Emery,

I am much saddened to read your online poetry, and reminded of Wilde's comment
that men kill the thing they love. Do you really think that any idea that comes into your
brain is fitting subject for a poem? Don't you see how passe and wearying is the old
"shock-the-bourgeois" tactic of the l960's? For goodness sake, my son, get control
of your mind.

                                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                                         Mark Christhilf

Chris, I love this poem - it's perfect for Kettle's Yard. Beautifully evocative...and the sea/ship images just right. David Jones also used ships and the sea a great deal.
Thank you!

It is better, isn't it, the current title was a working title when I was showing this thing to John Hartley Williams. Glad you're enjoying the blog, Bill.

All best

Hi Chris,

Enjoying the blog -- just to say I prefer 'Unified Chicken God' as a title to 'My God is the Best'. For whatever that's worth...
